Watchdog reviews workers’ situation

Market Regulatory Authority chief executive Osama bin Abdulla Al Absi yesterday received Bangladeshi Ambassador Mohammed Ali Akbar and updated him on Expatriates Management System.

They also discussed co-operation in issuing work permits and the situation of Bangladeshi workers, the second biggest expatriate community in Bahrain.

Crackdown on illegal workers

A 30-MEMBER security force will join the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in cracking down on illegal workers from today.
LMRA chief executive Ausamah Al Absi inaugurated the squad as part of the new phase of a comprehensive strategy to tackle the issue.
He met members of the squad and was assured on their preparedness to put an end to the issue of illegal expatriate workers, estimated to be around 52,000.

Dead body of an Asian worker stuffed into a travel bag was found dumped in a garbage bin early morning yesterday from Naim area. The body of Taher Antaz, 31, was spotted first by a cleaning employee, near Bin Khalaf Mosque inside Manama, who then notified people in the locale and the police. Continue reading
