Deputy Premier issues edict exempting adversely affected businesses from some LMRA fees

Manama, July 12 (BNA): Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Financial and Economic Affairs and Fiscal Balance, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, today issued an edict, exempting businesses adversely affected by the repercussions of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) from paying some fees imposed by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA). Labour fee exemption bill blocked

A BILL that would have exempted a government body from paying expatriate labour fees has been blocked by Shura Council members.

Parliament passed the bill in February, saying it would help the Sunni and Jaffari Waqf (Endowment) Directorates to pump finances towards developing existing facilities and building new ones. Continue reading

LMRA plans to rethink Bahrainisation quotas

MANAMA: The policy of pro-rata Bahrainisation imposed on industrial and trade sectors is to be reconsidered.

The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) is conducting a specialised study focusing on each sector. It plans to pay a series of field visits to assess the needs of each for foreign workers. Labour Minister and LMRA chairman Jameel Humaidan has sent a letter to the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). Continue reading
