During its visit to LMRA, US Congress Delegation Reviews Combatting Trafficking in Persons Mechanism

A delegation of the US Senate and House of Representatives hailed Bahrain’s unwavering interest in regularly reviewing and updating its legislative and legal frames to ensure compliance with the global requirements, and other legal, humanitarian and social considerations, with the aim of providing the required protection which safeguards the rights of all production parties.

The US delegation lauded the unrelenting efforts in Combatting Trafficking in Persons fields, praising the LMRA’s ongoing interest in upgrading and developing its Combatting Trafficking in Persons monitoring and follow-up processes, on basis of a well- studied integral mechanism covering all relevant governmental authorities.

These statements were made during a visit made by members of the US Senate and House of Representatives to the premises of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority LMRA on Wednesday 23rd March 2022, as part of its current visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The US delegation was received by the LMRA’s Chief Executive Officer CEO H.E. Mr. Jamal Abdulaziz AlAlawi and senior officials, in the presence of some representatives from the Foreign Ministry of Bahrain.

During the visit, the US delegation was briefed on the LMRA’s latest updates and key role in creating a safe environment for employees and employers alike. The US delegation was also briefed on the LMRA’s relentless commitment in fostering Combatting Trafficking in Persons efforts, in addition to providing the proper legal and procedural frames which aim at protecting the workers against any form or type of abuse in normal or extraordinary conditions.

The US delegation listened to a presentation on the latest updates, projects and initiatives adopted by the LMRA as part of its ongoing efforts aimed to safeguard the rights of workers, including the Wages Protection System (WPS), the Optional Insurance System for Domestic Expatriate Employees, and other key projects.
