LMRA Chief Executive receives Trafficking in Persons Chief Prosecutor

Manama, Oct. 24 (BNA): Chief Executive of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Ausamah bin Abdullah Alabsi, the Head of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, received in his office Trafficking in Persons Chief Prosecutor Dr. Ali Al Shewikh, in the presence of Deputy Chief Prosecutor Nasser Al Sheeb.

Al Absi congratulated Dr. Al Shewikh on the trust in appointing him to his post, pointing out his wealth of experience in combating human trafficking due to representing the Public Prosecution in the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons and given the fact of being holder of the first doctorate in anti-human trafficking in the Gulf.

Al Absi discussed with Dr. Al Shewikh cooperation between the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons and the Prosecution of Trafficking in Persons. He pointed out that cooperation between the government bodies and the prosecution will boost the efforts to fight this crime according to law 1/2008 and related ones. He added the move will also accelerate redress for the victims and granting them their rights after punishing the perpetrators. He also stressed readiness of the national committee to provide all support to the prosecution to back its efforts in redress and assisting the victims.

For his part, Dr. Al Shewikh expressed thanks and appreciation to Al Absi for his efforts through chairing the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, pointing out Bahrain’s achievements in this respect over the past years and keenness to build on them. He noted that setting up the first specialised prosecution in the Arabian region to investigate cases of trafficking in persons is a boost to the kingdom’s advanced international status in combating this type of crimes as Bahrain managed to maintain for the third year running its Tier 1 ranking in the US Department of State Trafficking in Persons (TiP) Report.
