Bahrain’s Efforts to Combat Drugs, Human Trafficking Lauded

Representative of the United Nations Deputy Secretary General, Judge Dr. Hatim Ali, the Executive Director of the UN Office on drugs and crimes in the GCC countries, affirmed that Bahrain is considered as an outstanding model for countries seeking to upgrade their legislative and legal systems in combating crimes and human trafficking.

In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), Dr. Hatim Ali praised, on the sidelines of his participation in Aqdar World Summit, in Moscow, the kingdom’s achievement in maintaining its Tier 1 status in the US State Department’s 2019 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report to become the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to reach this advanced rating. He stressed that the accomplishment reflects the kingdom’s commitment to international standards and its participation, along the international community, in promoting the culture of human rights, equality, justice and transparency.

Dr. Hatim Ali lauded his long-standing strategic partnership with Bahrain, stressing ongoing cooperation between the kingdom and the UN Office to upgrade the legal and legislative framework to combat crimes and ensure law enforcement and justice.

Aqdar World Summit is held under the patronage of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It will continue until September 1 under theme ““Global Empowerment of Communities: Experiences and Lessons Learned”. The third edition of the summit brings together senior officials from the UAE as well as an elite of experts and keynote speakers from around the world to share their experiences in the empowerment of communities and individuals.
