Bahrain anti-human trafficking efforts outlined

Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Chief Executive Officer Ausamah bin Abdulla Al-Absi received a delegation from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and outlined developments of the labour market reform project.

The delegation included (IOM) Regional Migrant Assistance Specialist, Regional Office MENA and Migration and Development Specialist Michael Newson. Al-Absi briefed the IOM delegation on the efforts of the National Anti-human Trafficking Committee to address the issue illegal workers and combat human trafficking. He discussed with delegation ways of bolstering cooperation and exchanging expertise in the fields of workers’ legal rights and training to enhance the competence of national cadres.

The two sides discussed support to establish a specialised centre which would play a crucial role in coordinating the national efforts to combat human trafficking. The IOM delegation commended Bahrain’s efforts to combat the human trafficking crime and lauded LMRA rules and regulations to streamline procedures and promote the rights of workers and employers.
