Chief Executive of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairman of the National Anti-Human Trafficking Committee Ausamah bin Abdulla Al-Absi received here on Thursday the Indonesian Ambassador to Bahrain Helman Arisman.
Al-Absi discussed with the ambassador the conditions of the Indonesian workers in Bahrain, and LMRA cooperation with the concerned sides in his country regarding the issuance of the permits of the work force.They discussed the Indonesian government’s plan to impose a ban on sending domestic workers to 21 Middle East countries, including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt, and the implications of the ban on the situation of those residing in Bahrain.

Al-Absi highlighted a legal mechanism aiming to consolidate the kingdom’s efforts to combat human trafficking under which the victims’ rights will be protected, and violators will be deterred, affirming keenness to take advantage of international experts in this regard.

He also stressed the interest to involve embassies of maids-exporting countries in awareness-raising campaigns, adding that a hotline was launched to receive all workers’ complaints, especially those related to alleged human trafficking incidents.

He also said that multi-lingual booklets and media material would be published to for the benefit of all categories of expatriate workers.

The Indonesian envoy praised LMRA’s care for Indonesian work force, and affirmed it is officially appreciated in his country.

He also lauded the new electronic regulations, laws and facilities to be launched by LMRA.
