A revision of the Bahrainisation percentage in private sector is on the cards, under the royal directives of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.A tripartite committee which includes representatives from the Labour Ministry, Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) will study the revision in the light of the new changes in commercial and industrial segments of Bahraini labour market.
“We welcome the royal instruction and the ministry has no objection to restudy the Bahrainisation percentage for the sake of public interest,” said the ministry’s Undersecretary Sabah Al Dossary.
“The rates have not been revised since 4 years and now need an update based on a detailed study,” said Mr Al Dossary.
He highlighted that the Premier had directed to make things easy for private sector in terms of the Bahrainisation figures and the study was instructed to be conducted in collaboration with the LMRA and the BCCI.
Tripartite committee
A meeting of the stakeholders held yesterday at the LMRA headquarters formed a tripartite committee to study the revision under the leadership of LMRA CEO Ausamah Al Absi.
Each party – Labour Ministry, LMRA and BCCI – will be represented by two of its members in the committee.
“The committee will study and propose the revised percentage according to the changes in the market,” said Mr Al Absi.
The study will also put a mechanism in place to measure the Bahrainisation rate in each sector and make a schedule to review the rates of every sector periodically.
He said that it aimed to protect right of all parties.
