MANAMA: The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) will soon develop a clearly defined mechanism for granting work permits to foreign workers facing travel ban.
The mechanism will also be available on the Internet.
LMRA chief executive Ausamah Al Absi said there was no legal link between travel ban and renewal of their work permits.
Mr Absi also stressed that the LMRA did not freeze transactions of foreign workers, and offered its services to employers in the event of a court ruling preventing a worker from travelling due to private financial claims.
This came during a meeting with a delegation of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s building and construction sector committee headed by its chairman Samir Nass.
It was explained that travel ban on foreign workers due to a financial transaction will not prevent the LMRA from renewing their work permits, or wouldn’t provide its services to them, including the renewal of their residence permits if the employer requested for it and fulfils all the requirements stipulated by law.
