Good news on visas

This is in response to R Madhavan’s appeal to the government to issue dependent visas for parents of expats, (GDN, February 22).

I am aware of at least two acquaintances in Bahrain who have obtained residence permits for their mothers.

I am no longer living in Bahrain but at one point I was trying desperately to get a residence permit for my elderly mother, unfortunately it never worked.

But the good news for you is that according to my correspondence with officials at the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), it is possible to get one issued, although the LMRA decides the fate of each on a case-by-case basis.

I suggest you get in touch with them and make the necessary application.

I can forward you the correspondence that I had with the LMRA regarding such visas. You can write to me at yaqub1967@yahoo.com, I’ll be glad to pass on whatever information I have.
