The inspector calls…

Can anybody clarify what authority the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) has? How can LMRA officials (new recruits) enter premises and ask for CPR cards of all the people on the floor?

Recently, two men from LMRA were found asking for cards of all staff and customers and instructing customers to go out and sit in their houses and not to do shopping.

Can anybody look into this matter and tell LMRA to inform the company before they come for inspection?

An LMRA spokesman said: “LMRA inspectors have the right to enter places of work during working hours, by day or night as the case may be. They should be provided with all necessary information and documents without any obstruction to their work. They have the authority to ask anyone for identification during inspection. Our inspectors try to carry out their work in a friendly way with minimum interruptions to businesses being inspected or to their customers. If the reader has any complaint against them, he needs to report it to the LMRA, giving us his CR number, business address as well as the date and time of inspection and the inspector’s name if known to him. Our call centre number is 17506055.”
