LMRA – a new hell…?

IS the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) another Gosi? Who introduced a drastically-failed system and for what purpose?

Earlier, I was paying approximately BD200 for a new work permit for two years, plus BD200 to get my application passed/service charge, and BD600 (BD100 x two Bahrainis’ salaries x three months). That equals BD1,000 for getting one work permit.

With the introduction of the LMRA, I now have to pay approximately BD200 for a new work permit for two years, plus BD200 to get my application passed/service charge, BD240 (LMRA fees for two years), and BD1,200 (BD200 x two Bahrainis’ salaries x three months). That equals BD1,840 for getting one work permit.

I, therefore, am paying BD840 more than what I used to for the same hassle.

Can anyone explain to me what exactly is LMRA’s role? I thought it would ease up immigration laws and allow companies to hire as many foreign workers as required by paying an additional BD10 per month per worker.

Unfortunately, when I applied for new work permits, my application was rejected for no reason and I was asked to hire eight Bahrainis to employ three foreign workers.

Is this fair? What is the purpose of paying an additional BD10 per month per worker if I have to go through the same hell for obtaining new work permits.
