THE number of expatriates registered with the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) during the first six days of its enrolment festival has crossed 32,000. The total number of expats enrolled with LMRA has now reached 287,460, said.

LMRA e-services and public relations manager Waheed Al Balushi.

“We are happy with the current response to the enrolment festival being held at

the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre,” he said.

“The hall has a capacity to register about 7,000 daily and we reached that capacity on Sunday.

“The number of people registered on Monday was 6,618, and the total number registered in six days is 32,279.

“At the current trend, we hope to complete registration of all expatriates in Bahrain before June 21, when the festival is scheduled to end.”

Indians topped the list of expats who have already registered at the festival. Their number has reached 17,023.

This was followed by 8,715 Bangladeshis, 2,612 Pakistanis, 1,149 Filipinos, 391 SriLankans, 810 Nepalese and 1,579 others.

“We want to remind the public that the festival will remain open on Fridays,” said Mr Al Balushi.

He said companies should cleanse the data of their workers with LMRA as early as possible.

Data of only 116,297 employees have been cleansed so far, which constitutes only 24 per cent of the total to be cleansed, said Mr Al Balushi.

Out of 60,981 companies, establishments and organisations, 40,051 have registered.

These include 37,741 commercial establishments, out of a total of 56,211.
