{"id":3886,"date":"2019-12-25T09:49:55","date_gmt":"2019-12-25T06:49:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.lmra.gov.bh\/en\/?p=3886"},"modified":"2019-12-25T09:57:40","modified_gmt":"2019-12-25T06:57:40","slug":"new-service-to-help-distressed-expatriate-employees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lmra.gov.bh\/en\/2019\/12\/25\/new-service-to-help-distressed-expatriate-employees\/","title":{"rendered":"New service to help distressed expatriate employees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.lmra.gov.bh\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/12\/Riffa-night.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3887\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lmra.gov.bh\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/12\/Riffa-night.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"687\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lmra.gov.bh\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/12\/Riffa-night.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.lmra.gov.bh\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/12\/Riffa-night-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.lmra.gov.bh\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/12\/Riffa-night-447x300.jpg 447w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A new initiative is being launched to streamline the process of helping distressed expatriate employees sue their employers.<\/p>\n<p>Two special offices will be opened soon to assist an aggrieved worker compile all relevant documents and submit a complaint electronically on the same day to the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The offices at the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) branches in Sehla and Riffa will be staffed by translators to provide the service to employees of all nationalities.<\/p>\n<p>The process will save the worker the trouble of visiting the ministry\u2019s headquarters in the Diplomatic Area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExpatriate workers are sometimes apprehensive or feel intimidated when visiting the ministry to file their complaints,\u201d LMRA chief executive Ausamah Al Absi told the GDN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey do not have the required documents or access to translators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have addressed these issues and will soon open two offices in our branches in Sehla and Riffa where an expatriate can walk in with or without documents to register his grievances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The staff will register the complaints and compile all documents including evidence which will then be submitted electronically to the ministry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will prepare all the documents with complete details such as job contract, passport details and company information because we already have most of this information in our database.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are times when a judge orders more documents in a case leading to a delay in the verdict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt these two offices, even if a worker walks in without a smart card or passport copy, we can take fingerprints and process the application.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Mr Al Absi clarified that the two offices will only register labour dispute cases that go the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking at the most predominant complaints that go to the court such as related to wages, severance pay, indemnity and tickets, among others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once all the information is provided and compiled, the complainant will be issued a legal receipt with dates on which he should visit the court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Al Absi also pointed out that a lack of translators in courts has been a common issue raised by rights advocates and migrant welfare groups over the years.<\/p>\n<p>He said he expected a surge in the number of complaints registered once the system goes online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout 300 (labour dispute) cases are dealt with every month in the courts;
