The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the\u00a0Labour\u00a0Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairman for the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons (NCCTIPs) had received a VIP delegation from the Republic of the Philippines headed by Undersecretary of the Philippines\u2019\u00a0Ministry of Foreign Affairs for migrant workers,\u00a0Sarah Lou\u00a0Arriola.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The discussion held by Mr.\u00a0Alabsi\u00a0and the Philippines\u2019 delegation concerned the settlement of\u00a0irregular workers from the Republic. The Philippines pledged to assist their citizens who were hoping to obtain a flexible work permit by covering the cost of the permit\u2019s issuance fees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another visitation by\u00a0the Philippine delegation visited the LMRA branch in\u00a0Sitra, which is dedicated to the issuance of flexible work permits\u00a0on\u00a0November\u00a05, 2018.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Filipino workers who had walked into the\u00a0Sitra\u00a0branch with illegal statuses walked out as regularized workers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The delegation also expressed its admiration\u00a0and praise\u00a0for the achievements made by the LMRA and NCCTIPs\u00a0in regulating expatriate workers and guaranteeing their rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

Arriola\u00a0stressed that legitimizing employment statuses and the issuance of Flexi work permits are a testament to the innovative solutions that the LMRA and Bahrain continue to provide to preserve and protect the rights of workers in the Kingdom. She expressed hope that neighboring countries would follow suit with a similar initiative to safeguard the rights of both worker and employer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On October 5, the Philippines embassy hosted its community at the Swiss Hotel to discuss all obstacles facing workers in Bahrain. At the event, a question-and-answer session with Mr.\u00a0Alabsihimself alongside other members of the LMRA allowed for the workers to voice all kinds of queries and concerns.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The embassy announced to the many workers in attendance that they intended to cover the financial costs of the Flexi for those looking to regularize their status.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alabsi\u00a0praised the efforts and attention paid by the government of the Philippines to correct the conditions of its workers in Bahrain, emphasizing that the Flexi permit both preserves\u00a0labour\u00a0rights, and deters the potential for exploitation or human trafficking.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
