Bosses call off LMRA protests

OPPONENTS to a tax on foreign workers have called off their weekly protests, but now hope to recruit thousands of Bahraini bosses into their campaign.
Private businesses were expected to resume their protest outside the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) for the fourth Sunday running yesterday.
Trucks ban delay upsets workers

BAHRAIN human rights activists yesterday expressed concern over the Cabinet’s decision to postpone a ban on transporting workers in open trucks for four months. The ban, which was implemented last Thursday, was yesterday postponed to May 1.
Midday work ban a success

WORKERS’ lives were saved by the midday ban during the hottest months of summer, it was declared yesterday.
Most companies complied with the ban on outdoor work, between noon and 4pm, over the past two months and there were no accidents reported at construction sites during the banned hours.
Grace period for illegal workers

THOUSANDS of illegal workers whose work permits have expired have been given a reprieve by authorities.
Even those whose permits have been out of date for up to a year, will now be given until December 31 to renew them, following an outcry by employers.

Worker ‘wrongly jailed as runaway’
A CONSTRUCTION company in Bahrain has called for an investigation after one of its workers was allegedly wrongly jailed as a runaway.
Bangladeshi Sarwar Saker spent 10 days in Jaw Prison after being summoned to the General Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Residency (GDNPR), when his employers applied to extend his residence permit (RP).
Protect workers
NOW that the labour market standardisation is happening, lets also set some standards for the employers.
We need to ensure that all employees have a proper job contract given by the company. The job contract should include the mandatory clauses of salaries, benefits, holidays, overtimes, medical insurance, allowances, job specifications, etc.
