We have been forced to sign a letter as follows:

“The employee shall not at any time for a period of one year after leaving the … company, without written approval seeking or obtaining employment or be directly or indirectly involved in any business or company or individual that competes directly or indirectly with the business of …company with the Kingdom of Bahrain.”

LMRA chaos

THE LMRA should be commended for its work and its mission, which we expect should improve the lot of both expatriates and Bahrainis alike as it relates to workers’ rights and improving employment opportunities for nationals.

However, in the past two weeks, we have been deeply shocked by the manner in which the LMRA has conducted its registration process at Bahrain International Investment Park, Hidd.

More counters?

I HAVE visited all LMRA registration centres including those in Saar, Hidd, Sitra and even the Indian Club to get registered. I even went to the centre they opened at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre last week, but all of them were quite disorganised, to say the least.

All centres have only one registration counter to process data of not less than 200-300 people at any given time.

Friendship society ‘will not be hit by visa clamp’

THE fate of an organisation, aimed at promoting ties between Bangladesh and Bahrain, will not be affected by visa restrictions on the community, officials declared yesterday.

The Bahrain Bangladesh Friendship Forum (BBFF) was set up last year as part of efforts to promote business and cultural ties.

Why is there a delay in issuing wife’s visa?

I work for the Sitra Bridge Project as a quantity surveyor. I came to Bahrain on September 22, 2007 on a seven-day visa. Then I waited for my RP and CPR until February 12, 2008, but I did not receive them. The Ministry of Works’ Human Resources Department and the LMRA failed to issue my residence permit (RP). Anyhow I went to Sri Lanka on February 12, 2008 and returned to Bahrain with a work visa on March 7, 2008. I received my residence visa on March 25, 2008.
