Her Excellency Mrs. Nouf Abdul Rahman Jamsheer, CEO of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairman of the National Committee for Combatting Trafficking in Persons attended the ceremony honoring the participants in the recent “Training of Trainers Program to Combat Trafficking in Persons” in its 2nd Arabic edition, which was organized by the LMRA’s Regional Centre of Excellence and Capacity Building for Combatting Trafficking in Persons, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with the participation of 28 trainees from various sectors and government agencies, including the media sector, the medical sector, as well as employees of ports and public security at the Ministry of Interior, and the inspection and criminal justice sectors.
Jamsheer stressed the importance of building capacities in the field of combatting trafficking in persons, specifically of frontliners in areas of identification and detecting victims and potential victims of trafficking in persons.
The training program consisted of 7 training modules that includes: training skills, concepts and trends of trafficking, legal frameworks understanding trauma and victim-centric care, victim identification and screening, psychological first aid, as well as working with interpreters.
The LMRA CEO pointed out that the importance of developing cadres in the field of combatting trafficking in persons because of the extensive knowledge and high degree of proficiency required to deal with and address such an international cross-border crime considering its complex, multifaceted and sophisticated nature.
She added: “the continuous training complements and enhances the efforts made by the Kingdom to maintain an all-encompassing work environment that rejects illegal practices in the labour market that might expose workers to exploitation, extortion and other forms of trafficking in persons.”
She further stated: “We are working through the Regional Centre of Excellence and Capacity Building for Combatting Trafficking in Persons to upgrade skills and capabilities in the various sectors through the Training of Trainers (ToT) program to provide a solid pool of qualified national certified trainers.
The Centre is deemed as a house of expertise and training in the field of combating trafficking in persons in the region, and works to provide a base of certified trainers from practitioners and frontline workers in the field of trafficking in persons, through a victim-centric approach and appropriate intervention methods, as well as building the capacities of target groups from different fields of frontline workers in areas of identification of potential victims.
