The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) received a high-level delegation led by Special Envoy of the UK Prime Minister and the Minister of State for South and Central Asia, United Nations, and the Commonwealth at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), H.E. Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon.

The delegation visited the LMRA branch in Sehla, Expat Protection Centre, which houses the Regional Centre of Excellence for Capacity Building for Combatting Trafficking in Persons and the office of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

LMRA Chief Executive Officer H.E Mr. Jamal Abdulaziz AlAlawi highlighted the vision and directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to protect human rights and combat trafficking in persons. He also emphasized the importance of the visit in reinforcing concepts of social justice. AlAlawi stressed historic cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom, noting the drive of the Government, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to strengthen relations with friendly countries.

Lord Ahmad praised Bahrain’s strides in combating trafficking in persons and adopting the best practices in compliance with international standards to protect labour rights.

He highlighted the efforts undertaken by LMRA and its partners to implement procedures and legislations to improve the work environment and protect migrant workers, hailing the role of the authority in preserving the rights of workers and employers.
