Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Chairman of the Labour Market Authority (LMRA)’s Board of Directors, received the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Chief of Mission , Mohamed Al Zarkani.
They discussed issues pertaining to expatriate workers’ rights, citing Bahrain’s advanced legal and institutional infrastructure and incessant efforts to ensure the protection of workers and labor rights and its achievement of the leading ranking in the US State Department’s report as the sole country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region meritoriously retaining its advanced international status in combating the trafficking in persons.
The minister reaffirmed Bahrain’s support and close cooperation with the organization and other international agencies to protect human rights, particularly the rights of expatriate workers in accordance with international standards.
Al Zarkani expressed his appreciation of Bahrain’s efforts to protect the rights of workers and combating the trafficking in persons, lauding the efforts of the Ministry of Labour and Social Development. He affirmed the IMO’s keenness on boosting the constructive cooperation with all the relevant human rights entities in the Kingdom as well as shedding light on Bahrain’s successful experience at international functions.
