The British Ambassador to Bahrain, Roddy Drummond, has praised the systems and laws adopted by the kingdom, represented by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, to ensure the rights of work parties, and protect the rights of expatriate workers, stressing that the legal guarantees provided to them are consistent with international conventions and treaties.

He stressed that the kingdom’s laws and efforts have reflected positively on its standing in the field of expatriate workforce protection.

This came as LMRA’s Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, Ausamah bin Abdulla Al-Absi, received here today the newly-appointed UK Ambassador to Bahrain.

Al-Absi wished the new ambassador every success in carrying out his duties so as to enhance the two kingdoms’ relations and cooperation in various fields, including labour laws and anti-trafficking in persons.

He briefed the envoy about the idea behind LMRA’s establishment and the role it is playing, noting that it is one the economic reform projects as it regulates the relationship between the production parties and delivers high-quality official services that contribute to revitalising the national economy.

In this regard, he highlighted the executive steps taken to reform the local labour market over the past years.

The meeting also discussed the efforts being exerted by the kingdom in combating trafficking in persons, as well as its plans to maintain its leadership in this field.

It also focused on the role that could be played by Bahrain to transfer its expertise and experience to other countries of the region, being a pioneering role model for combating such a crime.
