The CEO of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Ausamah bin Abdullah Al Absi held two separate meetings with the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Bahrain A.Saj U.Mendis, and the Charge’ d’Affaires of the Embassy of Nepal Mani Prasad Bhattarai.

He discussed with them the conditions of the expatriate workers in the kingdom and ways to enhance LMRA’s cooperation with the relevant sides in their countries regarding the workforce permits and raising awareness on LMRA’s regulations, as well as the legal situation of foreign workers, their rights and duties, and the role of diplomatic missions in this regard.

He also discussed with them the regulations for attracting skilled and unskilled workers, the recruitment of domestic workers by authorised companies and the creation of a mechanism to train workers.

He highlighted a legal mechanism, which under study, to consolidate the kingdom’s anti-human trafficking efforts. The mechanism would protect and ensure the rights of victims and, at the same time, deter violators, he said, stressing the need to take advantage of international expertise in this regard in order to achieve the goals of the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons.

He affirmed the key role played by the Expat Protection Centre and shelter in combating trafficking in human, stressing that it has become a destination for victims of human trafficking.
