HIS Majesty King Hamad yesterday highlighted the role of the Labour Ministry in promoting the labour reform project, providing work opportunities for jobseekers and training Bahrainis.
He also praised labour initiatives that have won international recognition.
His Majesty was speaking as he received at Al Safriya Palace Labour Minister Dr Majeed Al Alawi who introduced newly-appointed Under-Secretary Jameel Al Humaidan.
His Majesty wished them success in their duties to further modernise the labour market.
Efforts to improve the situation of Bahraini and expatriate workers and protect their rights also came under the spotlight.
The King instructed the Labour Ministry to reach out to private sector employees and build bridges with them to enhance their productivity.
He lauded the positive results achieved by the insurance against unemployment programmes, describing it as a social safety net for unemployed Bahrainis and an essential tool to train them and ease their integration in the labour market. He also highlighted the decision to amend the sponsorship system and allow expatriate workers to swap jobs legally.
“The initiative reflects Bahrain’s resolve to honour its international commitments, being signatory of conventions and treaties”, he said.
He also urged all parties to join efforts aimed at confronting the problem of unemployed university graduates.
Royal Court Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa attended the audience.
