NOW that the labour market standardisation is happening, lets also set some standards for the employers.
We need to ensure that all employees have a proper job contract given by the company. The job contract should include the mandatory clauses of salaries, benefits, holidays, overtimes, medical insurance, allowances, job specifications, etc.
The sad part in Bahrain is that many employees do not have a job contract at all, especially the low-paid ones.
We need to implement a standardisation mechanism and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) should also check if each employee has a valid contract jointly signed by the employee and employer.
I know many people who joined companies many years ago and since then their positions have changed, roles changed, benefits changed, but nothing on paper. Often it’s just conveyed in casual letters. Many low-paid employees do not have any contracts at all. Adnan .
